He’s Back

This post is for the mamas just like me…. the moms who love Christmas, the ones with kids in the middles years and with ones in the young years too! The ones who need a little extra help because what’s organization like these days?!!! 🤣🤣. And to all the moms who will hold on to Christmas magic with every fiber of our being!!

Well tis the season for all the things including the friendly little elf that might be sitting upon your shelf or swinging from the ceiling like ours was way too long last year because I kept forgetting to get him down. It is oh so magical and fun for our little ones, but for us mamas it can be just one more thing on our to do list. Which let’s face it this time of year is way too long.

That is our job though right this time of year…magic makers, surprise keepers and cookie bakers. While it seems stressful at times our little ones are only little once and this year I am feeling that more than ever.

My son Chase is now 14 and he has been the biggest believer in all things magic. To me he is magic. As a first time mom so many years ago I was told he would never speak, never have friends, go to a typical school and life just would never be what I thought it would be for him, for me and my family. It was always the magic though in his eyes and his smile when finding joy even in the most simple things that got me through the tough days. And hope. How could I not have hope when I looked at my little two year old with moppy blonde hair and huge blue eyes. Chase loved Christmas. Even when he couldn’t talk I knew how much joy it brought him and we did all of the things together. Some of my best memories were him coming to look for the elf.

While I didn’t know if he understood it he knew it was there somewhere and loved finding it. I loved how he would watch Charlie Brown Christmas over and over and dance when Snoppy danced. How he always in December wanted to go in the car so we could just drive around and look at lights. How we could sit curled up together by the tree and he would just be so snuggly and content looking at the lights or his polar express train. How he would hold his little polar express jingle bell so tight in his hand every night. Those are the things I know he does not remember but I will never forget. I have always loved Christmas, but seeing it through his eyes changed me and made it so much more magical than it ever was.

The last few years his interest in our little elf had drifted away, but last year I told him he was old enough to become a secret keeper and a magic maker. I sat him down and said when I was your age my mom told me that I was now in charge of helping with the magic, but it was a secret and could not tell my siblings. Chase laughed and for the first time in awhile I saw some excitement back in those big blue eyes. I told him he had to help me with the elf and some other Christmas tasks. He is the most organized kid there honestly could be. He said why don’t you make an elf schedule instead of waking up and winging it like I know you do. So I did and we sat together to fill it out with ideas. We listed in each block any materials we would need. And honestly it seemed to take a little of the stress away. Not to mention creating memories with Chase and spending time together. Seeing him see her reaction to the elf and what his ideas were is just priceless.

So here is the ELF SCHEDULE for all you mamas that maybe like me and is still telling their child the elf is playing hide and seek because I have yet to even get the elf out and we have been away and well busy season.

Sending all you mamas all the love this holiday season and reminding you that it is ok not to have everything perfect, to slow down and soak in the magic of your little ones and if your elf is still in a box or you just woke up and threw him in the tree that is ok too.

Cheers to magic making!

ELF SCHEDULE that you can download and edit including a letter too! There are different colors and you can change them as well if you want. Happy Holidays!
