Photography Tips

Embrace these golden days with a camera or iphone in hand and capture the joyous moments that define your child’s summer. This guide provides tips on photographing your child in the summer, offering a unique lens to capture their sun-soaked laughter, sandy play and the vibrant spirit of the season. Dive in and make your child’s summer story as unforgettable as the season itself.

Summer Memories:

Summer is the perfect time for creating everlasting memories, and capturing your child’s most precious moments is just a click away! Learn how to make the most of the warm weather, captivating sunsets, and little moments to produce stunning photographs of your little ones.

1. Focus on Emotion: The first principle to capture the mood and emotions of your child. Be it the excited giggles while bathing in the sea or the mesmerizing look when seeing a mountain for the first time, capturing their responses to these new experiences makes for priceless photos.

2. Use Narratives: Every picture should tell a story. Whether it’s exploring a new place or trying out a peculiar food, try to create a narrative that reflects your child’s unique experience.

3. Emphasize on Authenticity: Avoid staged and posed photos. Rather, focus more on natural, candid shots where your child is oblivious of the camera, totally immersed in the joy of the moment.

4. Value of Surprise: Capture unexpected moments. It could be an impromptu ice cream treat, a surprise encounter with a favorite mascot or even an unexpected downpour. These spontaneous incidents often elicit the most genuine reactions.

5. Maybe my most favorite piece of advice is the give your self a time limit. Whether it be 10 minutes or an hour. Depending on what you are capturing set realistic expectations. By setting a time it allows you to capture the moments, but I also feel that it is so important to be in the moment and experience things with your little ones. Giving them and your time together some undivided attention. For example…while we were in the Bahamas in May I wanted to capture my kiddos going on the water slides and rapid river for the first time. So I put my phone in a waterproof case took it with us on the rapids once and three of the slides and then put it away and never took it on the slides again all week. I captured all the their emotions and our fun quickly then put my phone away and enjoyed our time together.

6. Play with Perspective: Don’t just take pictures from your eye level – get down to your child’s level. This perspective makes the photos more relatable and dynamic.

7. Be Patient: Don’t rush to click the camera. Good photos take time. Be patient and wait for the right moment to capture.

8. Use Natural Light: Utilize the natural light as much as possible. Early morning and late afternoon sun offer the best light for photography.

9. Keep Experimenting: Experiment with different camera settings and angles. This not only enhances your photography skills, but it also makes your photos more intriguing and creative.

10. Remember to Enjoy: It’s easy to get so caught up in documenting the vacation that you forget to enjoy. Remember, these photographs are a noticeable reminder of your fun-filled family time, not the other way around. Let the photos be a part of the enjoyment, not the entire vacation.
