Visiting Ocean City, MD

Travel

A few things to know before visiting Ocean City, MD.  Whether you are new to this little beach town or you have been coming here since before you could walk like I have this post is filled with some information to make your trip a little easier and hopefully a little more fun. I am so lucky that I get to spend almost all summer every summer at my parents place in Ocean City.

Step into a world where life is literally a beach. Ocean City, Maryland, an little coastal town where your senses come alive and life’s tensions simply melt away. Here, your biggest decision is whether you’ll soak in the sun on miles of sandy beaches, ride the spectacular waves, or embark on a sea-side adventure, fishing, boating or crabbing.

For me this is where life slows down, and you’re encouraged to let yourself be swept up in the tranquility. Lounging on the sun-kissed beach, the gentle sea breeze and the rhythmic sounds of the waves is all I need to put me at ease.

If you aren’t here just to soak up the sun or relax perhaps you can experience the thrill of parasailing, the excitement of deep-sea fishing, or the child-like joy of exploring the town’s legendary boardwalk, complete with amusement park, arcade games, and a variety of decadent treats that will delight every palate.

Craving some culinary intrigue? You can indulge in Ocean City’s wild seafood, famous for its fresh-off-the-boat crabs, oysters, and clams. Or tantalize your taste buds at the award-winning restaurants that offer a tempting array of cuisine. Check out my post here on our favorite places to eat. From seafood to sweet treats.

And when the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of gold and crimson, the vibrant nightlife of Ocean City comes alive. Here, you can catch a live band, dance the night away, or simply enjoy a peaceful stroll along the moonlit beach. Our personal favorite is sitting bayside and watching the sunset or having a bon fire on the beach. You need a permit but it is totally worth it.

For the kids…So much for the kids to do. I personally like to spend our evenings watching the sunset on the bayside or having dinner at Coconuts Bar and Grille and then playing on the beach til sunset and grabbing an ice cream at Dumser’s and going home to watch a movie or have a game night. We though are there most of the summer so I know if you are only there for a week or a few days you will want to make the most of your visit. I do suggest doing the above a least one night. My kids love mini golf and there are so many to choose from. One of their favorites is on 68th street and it has indoor and outdoor and next door is a sweet frog and other treats.

Another must for my kids is Jolly Roger’s Amusement park. They also have a water park called Splash Mountain and go-karting called Speedworld which is my sons personal favorite. Even my seven year old daughter loves it. Still too small to drive but she loves being her brothers passenger.

Alley Oops is a must. My kids ask to go here all of the time. The upside to this is it just isn’t for kids and they do have a full bar. So parents and kids can both have fun. They are the arcades, virtual golf, and bowling. Along with a full bar and menu and tons of places to sit and enjoy a meal. It is one stop for fun and food.

Exploring the boardwalk or Assateague Island are also great options as well.

Last summer we went to Barn Hill Preserves which is a bit outside of Ocean City but my kids enjoyed it.

If your kids are younger make sure you check out Castle in the Sands because not only are they home to Coconuts Bar and Grille which are known for their live music and happy hour but they have a children’s activity program that I participated in growing up and now my kids are. On some nights they have outdoor movies and free popcorn.

Last but not least nothing compares to a peaceful day on the bay. We love going to 48th Street Watersports. You can even rent them ahead of time and have them delivered to you for the day or two days. My little one last summer was six and she loved it and handled that big paddle board like a champ.

Craft your own unforgettable experience in Ocean City. Because here, every moment is a memory waiting to happen. Whether you’re seeking serene relaxation or boisterous fun, you’ll discover your ultimate beach escape. It’s your story to write, make it as vibrant and colorful as the sunset on Ocean City’s skyline. We only have so many summers and as a parent we really only have 13 summers of our kids being “little” and only 18 summers before they are grown. Insert me crying here. The years go by way to fast and I have to say I am so thankful for this little coastal town because some of my very best memories growing up were here and now they are the best memories with my kids. Speaking of memories….the main thing you want to do when you are at the beach is have me capture your beach memories. Take a look here and then let’s chat.
